Emily Haddad, LCSW-C (she/her)

I am a  therapist who specializes in working with members of the LGBTQI+ community as well as with those with chronic health challenges. As a licensed clinical social worker, I have been practicing in direct service for 15 years supporting individuals and families to advocate for their needs and cultural practices within medical settings. I also hold a Master of Bioethics, an area of study that explores the interweave of biology, medicine, law, philosophy, ethics, and social issues. As a therapist, I consider these implications on the individual and family system and how the environment shapes our health, behavior, and sense of self.

Approach to Therapy

I enjoy providing counseling to pre-teens, teens, young adults and adults, and utilize evidence-based modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).  Both of these examine the connections between thoughts, feelings and actions to help individuals make change in their life.  I also have training in trauma-informed care, emotional freedom technique (EFT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and internal family systems (IFS), all of which help individuals explore the way their identities and past experiences shape their current functioning.  Additionally, I work with families and couples, especially those who are exploring issues related to sexuality/gender and health.  Across all approaches, I believe that counseling should capitalize on the client’s creativity, imagination, and interests. Therefore, I often encourage artistic expression to address depressive symptoms, anxiety, and the challenges of grief and loss. As a therapist I approach my role with humility and flexibility to meet the unique needs of each individual, couple and family.
